Senior Researcher, RISTI; Former KOICA Volunteer in Peru and Cameroon; Master's in International Development Consulting

She responded my questionnaire with “Hello Minji” in her warm tone of voice which was like her nature. She also made me so comfortable with a couple of more lines as she was so excited to meet me, and she firmly believed that I would reach my desired destination supported with her wholehearted.

Aeri, Originally trained in information and communication engineering, Ms.Lee’s journey into development cooperation began through KOICA volunteer work. Her early teaching in Peru and Cameroon showed her how small interventions could lead to personal transformation and systemic insight.

Working across multiple developing regions, Lee witnessed both the strengths and shortcomings of international aid systems. While initial optimism was tempered by structural limitations and dependency issues, she ultimately found meaning in supporting community-led progress—especially in the empowerment of individuals through technology and education.

Cultural respect, communication, flexibility, and a positive attitude are central to thriving in unpredictable and resource-constrained environments. She also emphasizes the importance of understanding both the technical and institutional dimensions of development, balancing hands-on impact with policy literacy.

Aeri sees vast opportunities across sectors—from health and environment to ICT and governance. She advises early-career professionals to seek experience through KOICA, YP programs, or university partnerships, while also clarifying their motivation. Her long-term vision involves bridging specialized technical fields with human-centered development frameworks.
