On July 18, 2025, I had the honor of visiting the Embassy of Lithuania in Korea alongside fellow HOBY Korea Youth Ambassadors. We were warmly welcomed and guided through a meaningful program prepared with great care by the embassy staff. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Agnė Sakalauskaitė, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, who graciously hosted us on behalf of the Ambassador.

Our Story

This visit offered us a valuable opportunity to tour the embassy and gain a deeper understanding of Lithuanian culture and diplomacy. As high school students, we seldom have access to firsthand diplomatic experiences like this, and we were able to learn about Lithuania from multiple perspectives.

One of the most memorable moments was when the Deputy Head of Mission invited us into the Ambassador’s office, where we sat and engaged in meaningful conversation. Rather than simply delivering a formal presentation, she made eye contact with each of us, answering our questions sincerely and warmly. Through this, we not only learned about the practical aspects of diplomacy but also about the importance of communication and the personal qualities that diplomats should possess.

The Deputy Head of Mission also spoke in detail about Lithuania’s history, values, and its friendly relations with Korea. The embassy provided materials introducing the geography, politics, society, and culture of Lithuania, which helped us better understand a country that is not often covered in our regular studies.

A particularly memorable part of the visit was the culinary diplomacy session.

Together with embassy staff, we prepared and tasted Lithuania’s traditional cold pink soup, Šaltibarščiai. This hands-on activity allowed us to experience Lithuanian culture through all five senses—an unforgettable moment of cultural exchange. Despite unfamiliar ingredients and preparation methods, all the students actively participated, creating a joyful atmosphere that brought us closer to Lithuanian cuisine.

Throughout the visit, we asked numerous questions about diplomacy and international cooperation. We left the embassy with a deeper understanding of both Lithuania and the vital role of public diplomacy. As HOBY Korea Youth Ambassadors, this experience significantly enriched our appreciation for cultural exchange and global citizenship.

Once again, we extend our sincere thanks to the Embassy of Lithuania in Korea for their warm hospitality and for taking the time to provide us with such a meaningful and unforgettable experience.
