Case : Mr. Dawoon Jung – Designing Sustainable Pathways through Vocational Development
Position: Program Officer, World Together (NGO)
As part of a personal project to explore international development cooperation, I had the honor of interviewing Ms. Dawoon Jung, a program officer at World Together, an NGO committed to promoting sustainable development through vocational training and private sector engagement. With prior experience at UNHCR Korea and the overseas division of the Milal Welfare Foundation, Ms. Jung has dedicated her career to building bridges across continents for the betterment of underserved communities.
Mr. Jung’s work focuses on vocational training in Kenya and CSR-linked projects. Inspired by her aunt’s missionary work, she brings both professional discipline and personal conviction to her development work.
He stresses long-term change over one-time aid, highlighting training programs that equip women and youth with tools to achieve income stability and dignity.
While program design is fulfilling, challenges include securing sustainable funding and forging institutional partnerships—especially for mid-sized NGOs operating in competitive environments.
He highlights intercultural communication, project management, language fluency (especially in English and local languages), and report writing as key skills. He also recommends gaining field experience early.
Advisory to Youth:
“Field experience will guide you more than theory. Commit to something—even if small—and let your perspective grow from there.”
